Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said two deaths were recorded due to dengue fever complications during ME 29.
He said the cumulative number of dengue cases reported to date was 66,224 cases compared to 29,603 cases recorded in the same period last year, which is an increase of 36,621 cases (123.7 per cent).
“There were 47 deaths due to dengue complications reported to date compared to only 19 deaths for the same period last year,” he said in a statement today.
According to Dr Muhammad Radzi, 104 hotspots were reported this week compared to 100 in the previous week, with 70 localities in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (16), Kedah (five), three each in Penang, Perlis and Sabah and one each in Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor.
Meanwhile, he said two chikungunya cases were recorded this week, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 144.
For Zika surveillance, a total of 1,718 blood samples and 109 urine samples were screened and the results were all negative.– BERNAMA
