A pre-dawn fire that broke out at the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association in SS13 on Sunday October 5 2025 was quickly brought under control by the Subang Jaya Fire & Rescue Department.
The fire, according to SJBA president Chim Siew Choon was first detected by one of the temple’s resident monk who noticed smoke.
“Our monk quickly sounded the alarm and efforts were taken to contain the fire with the help of temple workers. But the fire was too big for us to fight.”
“One of our helpers called for the Fire & Rescue Department. The fire destroyed one of the prayer halls and three rooms,” he said to SJ Echo.
According to Chim, the damage was estimated between RM300,000 to RM400,000.
“One of the rooms contained religious books. The building’s column was affected by the fire and so was the roof,” he said, adding that the association was now awaiting the results of the Fire & Rescue Department forensics team before proceeding with repairs.
Subang Jaya Fire & Rescue Department chief Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Iskandar Zul Akbar Abdul Aziz said the station received a call informing them of the fire at 5.04am.
“Our team arrived at the scene at 5.08am. The second floor of the building was on fire. We immediately worked on controlling the fire and extinguishing it.”
“The fire affected 40% of the area on the second floor and also affected the structure of the building. No casualties were recorded at the incident,” he said.
Muhammad Iskandar said the Subang Jaya team were also assisted by another team from Jalan Penchala.
In an immediate response to the tragedy, Subang MP Wong Chen has pledged RM10,000 to SJBA to assist.
