Public should stop moving around on the excuse of doing charity work during the MCO, Subang Jaya OCPD says
SUBANG JAYA, APRIL 26 2020: Are you running around Subang Jaya delivering food and groceries to the needy and less fortunate? If you are, STOP! Go back to your checklist and see if you have obtained a permit to do so.
Subang Jaya OCPD ACP Risikin Satiman today warned that individuals or non-governmental organisations which had not obtained a permit from the police and Welfare Department to carry out their charity work would be deemed as flouting the Movement Control Order.
“Under the directive of the National Security Council, all individuals or charitable organisations are required to obtain a permit from the police and Welfare Department.”
“We are not against charity, but we don’t want a case where a poorly planned act of charity develops into COVID-19 cluster.” he said, adding that no one wanted the MCO to prolong because of this.
Risikin said only NGOs which had registered with the Welfare Department and obtained a permit from the police would be allowed to operate.
“That is also subject to strict regulations and guidelines. No crowds and social distancing must always be observed. RELA officers must also be present to monitor and carry out crowd control, if any.”
“We are aware of the activities of individuals and groups going around without permission. Let this be my final warning before we take action,” he said, adding that the police had a responsibility to enforce the law.
He said many used welfare activities as an excuse to come out and move around.
Risikin said the strict measures were part of the national efforts to flatten the curve on Covid-19 and as such it was important that people abided by the MCO.
“The last thing we want is a new cluster in Subang Jaya. People moving around can get infected and then pass it on to others they meet when they hand over food, groceries and other items,” he added.
He said Subang Jaya were on high alert at all times in enforcing the MCO and would not hesitate to haul in those who flouted it.
