Permatang Pasir State Assemblyman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said he understood that the hike could not be avoided as the existing assessment rate had not be reviewed since 15 years ago.
But, he hoped the state government could explain about the increase in services the people were set to enjoy due to the increase in the collection of tax following the hike.
‘’If the state government adopt the attitude of continuing with the hike, I hope the services offered must commensurate with a boost in service for the people.
‘’The anxiety of the people is whether there will be a boost in the service in terms of drain maintenance, garbage cleaning, landscape and others. These are what the people want to see especially in Seberang Perai,’’ he said.
He said this when debating the Supply Bill and the motion on the 2020 Development Estimates at the State Assembly sitting here today.
In the meantime, Muhammad Faiz suggested that the Penang government extended the services of the council members of the local authorities to five years as suggested by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin. The sitting resumes tomorrow.– BERNAMA
