Bomba Subang Jaya Babysits 4 Kids While Mum Rushed to Hospital

SUBANG JAYA, JULY 22 2023: Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station chief Syed Shahril Anuar Syed Sulaiman and his team laid down their hoses and played a different role earlier this afternoon.

Instead of rushing out to fight fires, Syed Shahril and his team took on the role of “babysitters” for a family of four children when they received a call for help from the Subang Jaya Community Ambulance team.

According to Subang Jaya’s Community Ambulance paramedic Amala Dass Maria Dass, the team received a call to attend to a road accident at the Persiaran Tujuan-New Pantai Expressway which involved a vehicle that had skidded at 1.48pm.

“We arrived at the crash site within 11mins and found the driver, a mother of 6 children sitting down at the location. She complaint of chest pain and was pale.”

“Our paramedics quickly put on a C-collar and put her on a spinal board to minimise her movement. At that point in time, we were caught in a situation – what to do with her 6 children, aged between 2-13 years-old who were with her,” he said, adding that two of the children suffered minor injuries and needed to be sent for a checkup as well.

According to Amala Dass, he could not leave the children behind at the crash site and since the Fire and Rescue Department station was just a stone’s throw down the road, he decided to ask for help.

“Bomba chief Syed Shahril immediately said yes to taking care of the four children while we rushed their mother and two siblings to Hospital Shah Alam for medical attention.”

“We managed to contact their father who immediately rushed over from Shah Alam to get his children,” he said, adding that he was thankful that Bomba Subang Jaya extended their helping hand even though “babysitting” was not their responsibility.

Right after everything was settled, SJ Echo contacted Syed Shahril to thank him for the assistance his station provided to the ambulance.

“I am glad we could help in times of need. Our job is not just to fight fires but to extend our help to anyone who needs it. This is the essence of being part of the Subang Jaya community,” Syed Shahril said.
