MBSJ Gets Cracking on Illegal Structures in USJ1

THE Subang Jaya City Council carried out its promise to rid the city of illegal structures and extensions in commercial areas.

This morning it took action on 25 premises in Subang Permai, USJ1.

MBSJ director of corporate and strategic management Muhammad Azli Miswan said the crackdown follows the widespread disregard for bylaws which forbid the building of structures and extensions along and behind commercial buildings and over drains.

“The illegal structures and extensions had impeded regular drain cleaning works carried out by the council’s contractors. Drains were also clogged with rotting food waste and discards from the commercial lots which then caused the increase of pest and rodent problems in the area.”

“We will continue our crackdown on illegal structures and extensions across the whole city and will not spare the rod on errant property owners,” he said.

He also advised food operators to dispose their waste properly as stipulated in their licence and not take the easy way out by pouring everything into the drains.

During the operations, several eateries were also ordered to close to clean up before being allowed to reopen.

KDEB carried out drain cleaning works simultaneously with the operations this morning. The stench was least to say nauseating and the clumps of hardened sludge removed from the drains was obviously disgusting.

Late last month, the local authority carried out a similar exercise in the commercial area of Bandar Puteri 2/3.
