Recycling Efforts Begin in USJ from July 1

SUBANG JAYA, JUNE 24 2024: EFFORTS to make it easier for residents to play their role in recycling is now expanding to the USJ1-USJ22 neighbourhoods starting July 1.

With collections scheduled for three times a week, the initiative which is spearheaded by ADUN Subang Jaya Michelle Ng will see households being able to clear out their recyclable materials instead of cluttering up space in their homes.

“We are now expanding the program that has reaped success across Subang Jaya (Wangsa Baiduri,SS12, SS15, SS13, SS14, SS18, SS17, SS19, PJS7, PJS11 and South Quay) into USJ.”

“Collection by KDEB will be done at your doorstep. All you have to do is put all your recyclables into a separate rubbish bag and place them outside your gate on the designated days collection is being done,” she said at a press conference to announce the initiative for USJ.

According to Michelle, residents only need to set aside plastic, paper and aluminium from their normal household waste rubbish bags.

“For bulky waste like furniture, clothes and toys, you can contact MBSJ at 03 – 8024 7700 to find out about their charges for disposal.”

“Phase Two of this program follows the success of our pilot project which managed to increase recycling efforts by 7-fold in SS12-SS19 and Bandar Sunway,” she said, adding that in May this year, 35 tons of recyclables (equivalent to 70 tons of carbon released into the atmosphere) was collected.

Michelle said changes each resident makes at home can bring a big difference to the environment.

“I call on everyone to join forces with us and make the change. Recycling efforts begin with residential households. In the near future, we will look at expanding this to strata, commercial and industrial properties.”

“Each category has its own challenges and we will take it one step at a time,” she added.

KDEB Waste Management managing director Dato Ramli Mohd Tahir who was present with MBSJ councillor Zon 3 Ken Chia said KDEB supports efforts to reduce waste that was heading to the landfill.

“Work with us to make this initiative a success. Separate your waste and we will take it from there.”

“We are making it easier by carrying out collections three times a week,” he said.
