SJECHO POLLS PREDICTION: Michelle Takes the Lead with Muda Coming In Second

The recent N31 DUN Subang Jaya elections poll results have been released by SJ Echo. Here is what we found:

251 POLL PARTICIPANTS

The poll involved 251 participants, with 90% confirming they are registered to vote in Subang Jaya. Among these participants, 95% had prior voting experience. Only 5% of the participants are first-time voters.

Age-wise, the largest portion (52%) of participants fell within the 50 to 69 years old range, followed by 30% in the 30 to 49 years old category. In terms of ethnicity, the majority (61%) were Chinese, followed by 14% Indians, and 10% Malays. Additionally, 10% chose not to disclose their ethnicity. However, the poll’s representation from the Malay population was slightly lower than Subang Jaya’s average, where

Malays make up 30% o the population. This discrepancy could be attributed to Malay voters not registed to vote in Subang Jaya or not being reached by the poll’s invitation.

INCUMBENT MICHELLE NG (PH) THE CLEAR POLL LEADER WITH 75% SUPPORT

Among the 251 respondents, 75% expressed their intention to vote for the incumbent ADUN candidate of Pakatan Harapan, Michelle Ng Mei Sze. Muda’s Zayd Shaukat Ali secured second position with 11% planning to vote for him. Perikatan Nasional’s S. Gana lagged significantly behind with less than 2% of voter support.

10% OF PARTICIPANTS AND 1 IN 7 MALAYS STILL UNDECIDED

With less than a week remaining, 10% of voters remain undecided. Breaking down the undecided voters by ethnicity, nearly one in six Malay participants indicated uncertainty, the highest proportion among all groups. In contrast, only 6% of Chinese participants remained undecided.

ACCESSIBLE AFFORDABLE HEALTHARE IS THE NO. 1 WORRY

The primary concern for participants was access to affordable healthcare, as indicated by 40% of respondents. Encouragingly, construction for a new klinik kesihatan, which was reported in the August edition of SJ Echo, is set to begin soon, potentially addressing the community’s healthcare needs.

The second most prominent worry was water supply security, likely influenced by frequent water cuts experienced in Subang Jaya over the past decade.

Enhancing pedestrian and cyclist friendliness, along with increasing green recreational spaces, tied as the third most pressing concerns for residents.

SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM PARTICIPANTS

After reviewing participant comments, the recurring focus was on infrastructure improvements, traffic jams, local council elections, corruption concerns, and tensions around race and religion. With the harshest of complaints related to local council issues, including cleanliness, enforcement, and maintenance – a concern repeatedly highlighted by SJ Echo.

We’re compiling these valuable comments to share with the three candidates, offering them insight into community sentiment. With the election just days away, all eyes are on the candidates’ responses to these concerns.
