THE BEST TONKATSU IN KUALA LUMPUR

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison has carved out a very particular niche in Malaysia, offering pairings of deep fried meat cutlets with a mountain of cabbage, a side of soup and plump bowls of warm rice. A loyal following now drawn to its authentic Nagoya style Tonkatsu, it’s a dish best served crispy.

The decor of Tonkatsu by Ma Maison has a flare of Japanese culture with a touch of class. Representing Japan through the large frames of Japanese scripture serving as dining instructions for those who can comprehend. It is a small cosy place, suffused with a mellowness that is very much in tune with the gentle strains of music always playing.

Japanese food is ubiquitous in Malaysia. But, our specific appeal is the authenticity carried through in our dishes from the thick cuts of high-quality meats to the gentle breading and the sinful crunch that comes with each bite. It can satisfy all those who crave Japanese home cooking and hook all those who’ve never encountered such decadence.

The texture of the coating is very important in the way it performs and thus is something the founder Akinori Terazawa prides himself on. Each step from preparation, to the cutting of meats, the dusting of crumb coating; all an amalgamation from years of trial and error. The restaurant was sparked in Japan in 1976 to start his own specialty Tonkatsu outlet that served professionally marinated meats with homemade sauces as the perfect complement. Terazawa’s mulish demeanor led to him perfecting a unique way of preparing deep-fried meat that’s something for us to be thankful for!

We pride ourselves on being a Japanese meat house with everything from thick cuts of meat to deep fried pork. And like most Japanese, we take our meat very, very seriously.
